Udom - NEW RECORD 01
THE University of Dodoma (UDOM) has registered a record in the country with some 12,000 students joining the institution in this year’s academic intake in comparison to 4,500 students in the previous enrollment.
That came after President John Magufuli’s call for change of mandate of Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) to allow students to make choices of the universities they would wish to join.
This was disclosed by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Ms Beatrice Balthazar, noting that UDOM had received about 43,000 applications from across the country in this year.
“We’ve enrolled 12,000 students through direct application system from across the country for 2017/18 academic year,” she said at an event to welcome fresh students at the campus last semester.
The event coincided with CRDB Bank’s customer care day that was organized here to provide students with an opportunity to open a special bank, account dubbed ‘Scholar Account’ which targets students in higher learning institutions.
Ms Balthazar expressed gratitude to CRDB Bank for bringing its services closer to the students, adding that previously fresh students had experienced challenges on financial services after reporting to the institution.
On her side UDOM CRDB Bank Branch Manager, Ms Chabu Mishwaro, noted that her institution had deployed its mobile branches to all colleges within the campus to enable fresh students get access to the financial services.
